Here’s wishing everyone who uses Ropemakers Field park, a happy and joyful holiday, and a peaceful New Year. It’s been a tough year for so many of us, whether it’s the pandemic, the economy, or just missing family and friends…so do make the most of your local park.

It’s a place to refresh and restore, to be part of a community, and to enjoy the natural world. There are exciting plans for next year including a wildflower garden, a biodiversity survey, making the park more accessible and the council will be acting on its earlier consultation with users. It would be great to work towards the green flag too.

The bulb planting went really well, and leftover bulbs have been planted in local sites around Limehouse- including the Barleymow Estate Vererans Club garden. The club will be a respite centre for Barleymow residents while works are done on the estate. Let’s hope the bulbs come up and brighten up this peaceful spot.

There are some worries in our lovely oark - the chestnut trees have been infested with a disease which we need to check out. And the scrubby areas of the park are known to be home to rats! The bats weren’t seen last year- have they gone for good?

But we can also look forward to the new cherry tree avenue blossoming in the spring. and it’s just possible that the newly planted bulbs will survive and thrive!

Look out for notices if you are interested in helping look after the park- we will be meeting in the New Year. Hope to see you then!
