The Horse Chestnut
Begin at the band stand and walk north towards the canal and on the left The Horse chestnut. Aesculus hippocastanum came to Britain from the Balkans late 16th C, it is named after the feeding of its nuts to horses with respiratory disorders in Turkey. Planted here as an ornamental avenue with showy candles of flowers in spring.
